Children & Families Worker (St. Thomas Newcastle)

St. Thomas' Newcastle is seeking a Children & Families Worker.

St Thomas’ is a quickly growing church in the heart of the city. The majority of the church family are under the age of 35 with both a large proportion of university students along with a number of young families. St Thomas’ launched as a Church Plant around four years ago and is the ‘Resource Church’ for the Diocese of Newcastle. This role is a key part in delivering our vision of sharing the good news of Jesus with children and families that live in Newcastle and by encouraging them to be all God is calling them to be in Christ.

 

Employment: The successful candidate will be initially employed by the Newcastle Diocesan Board of Finance. The Resource Church is in the process of being set-up as a legal entity in its own right, and once established employment will transfer to the new Resource Church body. The role is offered on either a full-time or a part-time basis (to be agreed upon appointment).

Location: This post will be located in Newcastle City Centre at the church of St Thomas’ the Martyr.

Accountability and Key Relationships: Line Manager: Lee Kirkby, Associate Minister.

Other key relationships are with the St Thomas’ staff team and the Diocesan Children and Youth Team.

FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME (to be agreed on appointment). The full-time salary during the probationary period is £25,324 per annum, rising to £26,657 per annum on completion of the probationary period (pro-rata for a part-time appointment).

This post plays an important part in delivering our vision in the City of Newcastle, specifically by engaging with families and children in the good news of Jesus through the work of St Thomas’.

 

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will help to develop and deliver a vision for reaching and discipling children and families, encouraging children to engage with the Church (and vice versa) and supporting innovative mission and discipleship amongst children. Within St Thomas’ you will be a champion for children whilst also being a key part of the church staff team to help develop and deliver the wider church objectives including the diocesan strategy for new worshipping communities that reach children.

 

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a Christian fully committed to the Word of God & the power of the Holy Spirit with experience of working with children and families in a local church context and a desire to put the interests of children as a priority and help them grow and find faith. Someone who honours, lives and encourages the vision and values of St Thomas’with a passion to further develop and deliver a vision for children's discipleship and mission within the church.For full details please see the job description.
