An inter faith group within the Diocese of Newcastle will welcome guest speakers for a series of talks which will reflect on art and faith.
Illuminating the Word of God will take place during the summer months. It is set to hear views from Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Christian and other perspectives others. It will also look at how writers, sculptors, calligraphers, poets, composers and other artists have drawn inspiration from their religion to illuminate the word of God.
The talks are being organised by Voices of Faith, which operates within the Diocese of Newcastle and works alongside Newcastle Council of Faiths.
The group is also planning an exhibition later in the year, during National Inter Faith Week from 12th November, which will also be called Illuminating the Word of God. The groups wants to encourage young people of faith to reflect on the subject matter and submit an entry for a poster exhibition, which will take place at Newcastle Cathedral.
Submissions can either be named on the posters or remain anonymous. Entries should be submitted by Friday 27th October. Following the exhibition, the posters will be held by the Religious Resource Centre and will become a resource for others to use.
The next talk will take place at The Central Mosque, Grainger Park Road, Newcastle, on Wednesday 21st June from 6pm to 8pm. The guest speaker will be Imam Abdul Basith. Refreshments will be provided. Please call 0191 270 4100 to confirm your attendance, or email info@newcastle.anglican.org
