Christmas is coming….. directly to the homes of school children in the Willington Team area this year.
Rev Julie Mooney of Church of the Good Shepherd Battle Hill told us: “Our Christingle and Crib service on Christmas Eve is so popular and a tremendous opportunity for outreach to the community.
“Last year 240 people joined us for worship. That’s about 200 people more in church than we expect for our usual Sunday services.
“We realised we couldn’t hold our service in the same way this year but we didn’t want to miss this wonderful mission opportunity. So instead of families coming to our church building for their Christmas worship and joy we are delivering it to each child in Denbeigh, Hadrian Park and Battle Hill Primary Schools.
“Our Licensed Lay Reader Jean Moore has organised a team of helpers who have made up the packs for 1200 children. The pack, created at a very small cost, contains details of our online worship services as well as the Comfort and Joy resources. It also contains a prayer and lots of Christmas crafts and activities for children to do in their own home.
“We are asking the children to make two prayer stars – one to display in their window at home and one to be returned to our church building, for display in the window.
For anyone who wants ideas, here is a list of the craft activities in the Christmas pack: make two prayer stars, make a crib, colour in the nativity scene, spot the difference, colour in the stable ‘smells’, and a Christmas story word search.
