The LGBTQI+ Chaplaincy is part of a diocesan-wide commitment to foster a climate of radical Christian inclusion and welcome.
It is in response to the House of Bishop’s apology for the way the Church has treated LGBTQI+ people, both those who worship in our churches and those who do not.
The chaplaincy will honour the personal experience of LGBTQI+ people and celebrate their contribution to ministry and mission within the Diocese of Newcastle. It will enable the positive change that is needed across the Diocese to offer a radical welcome to all God’s children and grow a younger and more diverse church. Our chaplains are committed to the full inclusion of LGBTQI+ people in the Church of England, but do not seek to change the views of those they work with.
Our team is led by our Lead Chaplain Revd Emma Duff, together with our Volunteer Chaplains David Casati and Izzy McDonald-Booth who are available to support LGBTQI+ people and their loved ones. We acknowledge the deep hurt and pain that has been experienced by LGBTQI+ Christians, and any contact with the chaplaincy will remain confidential unless we are concerned that someone is at risk of harm. We are available for one to one conversations, and also work alongside Parishes and Deaneries who wish to discuss matters of gender, identity, sexuality and faith.

You can contact the Chaplaincy on LGBTQIplus@newcastle.anglican.org.
