LGBTQI+ Chaplaincy

The LGBTQI+ Chaplaincy and support service is a developing service and is part of a diocesan-wide commitment to foster a climate of radical Christian inclusion and welcome.

It is in response to the House of Bishop’s apology for the way the Church has treated LGBTQI+ people, both those who worship in our churches and those who do not.

The chaplaincy will honour the personal experience of LGBTQI+ people and celebrate their contribution to ministry and mission within the Diocese of Newcastle. It will enable the positive change that is needed across the Diocese to offer a radical welcome to all God’s children and grow a younger and more diverse church.

We are working to recruit a team of volunteer chaplains to offer pastoral support, affirmation, accompaniment and dignity for LGBTQI+ people over the age of 18 in our diocese.

Our Lead Chaplain Revd Emma Duff has begun this work and is available to support LGBTQI+ people and their loved ones. We acknowledge the deep hurt and pain that has been experienced by LGBTQI+ Christians, and any contact with the chaplaincy will remain confidential unless we are concerned that someone is at risk of harm.

Recent blogs, statements and updates from our Lead Chaplain can be found on our blogs page.

We will continue to update this page as the service develops.
