On Monday 17th March a group of clergy from our rural parishes met at St. Cuthbert’s, Hebron to pray, learn and eat together.
This was the second of what we hope will become an annual event. The theme of the day was ‘Seeking the “Lost Generations” and Hidden Vocations in our Rural Contexts.’
Bishop Helen-Ann joined us for the day and opened proceedings with a reflection and prayer before we were introduced to some children from Tritlington C of E First School who came armed with some really difficult questions for us. Tara Russell (Children and Youth Team Leader), The Revd Elaine Jones and The Revd Julia Lacey then led us in reflecting on what is meant by the ‘lost generations:’ lost to whom? Certainly not ‘lost’ to God….
We then heard back from representatives of the two learning cell groups set up after the last study day with the intention of mutual support, learning and challenge. Thanks to The Revd Diana Johnson and The Revd Canon Rob Kelsey for letting us know what you’ve been doing.
After a good lunch and some fellowship in the early Spring sunshine we heard from Ric Whaite (Director of Mission and Ministry) about the definitions of New Worshipping Communities and our task to pause and notice where God is already at work in our settings.
Stella Hawkins and Stephen Tranter (Director of Ordinands and Vocations) then led our afternoon session modelling a conversation about the vital role of lay ministry in our rural parishes.
Bishop Helen-Ann closed the day with her thoughts and a blessing. Many thanks to all involved for a thoughtful, hopeful, joyful day together.
