First published on: 7th June 2023

Congratulations to our nine ordinands who will become deacons and priests this Petertide.

During the weekend of 1 and 2 July,  three people will be ordained as deacons and seven as priests.  You can find out more about each of our ordinands below. All are very welcome to attend the ordinations but if you can't make it, Newcastle Cathedral will be live-streaming the event so please do join in the celebrations online. Links are available here.

My name's Hannah and I will be serving my curacy in the parish of Christ the King. I've been studying at Cranmer Hall in Durham while also studying for a PhD in the Theology department at Durham university. I'm delighted that I get to stay in the north-east, which has become home for my husband and me over the last 4 years, and it's also where our daughter was born just a couple of months ago. My journey to ordination began when a couple of people suggested to me that I should consider it. As I began the first paperwork, I prayed that if I shouldn't get ordained I would get a clear 'no' - the no never came, but a 'yes' got slowly clearer to me over my training, and here I am now!

I have felt hugely grateful for the opportunity I have been given to continue to serve the church and the community, in the place where I have lived all my life, as a deacon.  This has been a year of learning, of growing, of being nurtured and supported as I have begun to serve my curacy in the parish of St. Andrew Corbridge with Halton and Newton.

What a year it has been – there have been so many ways in which I have been able to see God’s grace at work – in the community, local schools, residential homes and of course in the  daily and weekly services which take place. My funeral ministry was already established as I was previously a reader. But his year I have baptised, talked with people, walking alongside them in their joys and their sorrows.  Set up a pastoral visiting hub, led Messy Church and been involved in numerous other services, events and activities, including our annual Christmas Tree Festival – a member of the congregation stitched trees onto my clerical shirt, which you can see in the picture!

It has been such a happy and special year. I am now looking forward to my priesting on the 1st July and mu first presidency on Wednesday 5th July.
