Statement from the LGBTQI+ Chaplaincy following recent Supreme Court decision

The LGBTQI+ Chaplaincy in the Diocese of Newcastle is committed to the full inclusion of our trans and non-binary siblings in the life of the Church. Following the recent Supreme Court ruling on sex and gender, we want to express our support of our trans and non-binary communities. We believe that we are all beloved children of God and deserve to be welcomed, respected and treated with dignity.

We recognise that the uncertainty around how the decision is to be interpreted is affecting the day to day life of many in our communities. Some of our trans siblings have reported feeling unsafe and under attack, facing the possibility of losing access to services and freedoms they may have had for decades. We are committed to inclusion, belonging, welcome, and the celebration of diverse voices.

If anyone would value a conversation for pastoral support for themselves or someone they care about, or to discuss further the practical implications of the decision, please contact our Lead Chaplain the Rev’d Emma Duff on e.duff@newcastle.anglican.org
