Meeting with Bishop Christine
There are to be three opportunities in 2020 for retired clergy to meet Bishop Christine, all 11.00 am to 2.00 pm and including lunch:
- Wednesday 1st July at Corbridge;
- Thursday 2nd July at Percy Main, North Shields;
- Thursday 9th July at Alnwick.
While these are aimed at retired clergy who live relatively nearby, all retired clergy are welcome to be at any of them. There will be more information nearer the time.
Can you help? Several clergy and readers serve as duty chaplains at the Cathedral, for anything from two to four hours once a week or once a fortnight, but there are not enough to cover all the hours when Newcastle Cathedral is open. The work involves loitering with intent, ready to listen to any visitor who wants to use a friendly ear. Most questions are about the building or its history, but sometimes questions of faith arise, and often questions of a serious pastoral concern. Chaplains who are priests are occasionally asked to hear a confession. If you would like to find out more about the possibility of serving as a Cathedral chaplain, please contact the Revd Jean Skinner.
The deanery stewards and advisors are here to be of use to you personally and in your ministry. If there is anything you think that the retired clergy support team can do to further this purpose please do let them know.
