Archdeacon of Northumberland

We are seeking to appoint an Archdeacon of Northumberland.

The Archdeaconry of Northumberland covers the city of Newcastle, North Tyneside and parts of Northumberland. Predominantly inner city and suburban, with some rural areas, this is one of the most diverse and vibrant areas of the North East, and is one of the most significant centres of business, manufacturing, sport and culture in the region. It is also challenged by the social issues associated with poverty and deprivation.

The Bishop is seeking a colleague who will

  • Enjoy joining a committed, supportive, and friendly senior leadership team
  • Be a wholehearted advocate and leader for the Diocesan vision and transformation strategy, and a tenacious supporter of parish mission and ministry
  • Have a lead role in developing a collaborative relationship between worshipping communities for mission and ministry in the city of Newcastle
  • Oversee the Diocesan approach to, and work for, social justice
  • Hold an overview of chaplaincy provision within the Diocese of Newcastle
  • Be a Residentiary Canon at Newcastle Cathedral
  • Undertake the duties and statutory responsibilities of an archdeacon
  • Have a unique opportunity to make a difference at a significant time of change and development
