Newcastle Diocesan Sons of the Clergy Society

About the Society

The Society shall be called "The Newcastle Diocesan Sons of the Clergy Society" and shall have for its object the relief of Clergy Widows, Widowers and dependants and of necessitous Clergy in the Diocese of Newcastle.

The Committee

The Committee shall consist of the President, the Chairman, the Vice-Presidents, the Secretary, Treasurer and Widows Officer with power to co-opt two.

The Officers

The Deanery Retired Clergy Officers whose duties it shall be, together with the Bishop's Widows Officers and Diocesan Retired Clergy Officers (s), to have care for the clergy widows, widowers, retired clergy and dependants who reside in their respective deaneries shall be appointed by the Lord Bishop of Newcastle and invited annually to attend the Annual General Meeting of the Society. There shall normally be one Officer for each Area Deanery.

Income

The Treasurer will dispose of all the moneys belonging to the Society according to the directions of the Committee Meetings as signified by the signature of the Chairman of the Meeting, or as directed by the President, after consultation with the Secretary, Treasurer and relevant Archdeacon, between meetings in the case of any urgent requests for support.

Applications

Applications may be received from Clergy Widows, Widowers and dependants and necessitous clergy, who hold or who held the Bishop's Licence or Permission to Officiate in the Diocese of Newcastle. Additionally applications may be received from clergy widows, widowers and dependants and necessitous clergy who have served elsewhere in the Anglican Communion and who are now resident in the Diocese of Newcastle and may or may not have elected to request a Permission to Officiate in retirement.
