Volunteering Hub

Volunteering is at the heart of Christian service and discipleship and can enable us to be generous in practical ways. Generosity can take many forms and using our time, gifts and talents is an important way of living out our faith and helping others. Volunteering can help give us as Christians a chance to become involved in social action work which can complement our ongoing discipleship journeys and deepen our faith in a different way.

In addition to putting our faith into practice volunteering is also seen as having numerous positive benefits for those who get involved. It improves both mental and physical health, can build self-confidence, gives a sense of purpose, enables you to give something back to your community, develops new skills and experience, and can also help you make new friends.

Community Opportunities: In this section we will share some community volunteering opportunities. Each community group should have its own recruitment and volunteer management processes in place to ensure all volunteers are well supported and properly inducted into their roles.

COVID-19 Volunteering Opportunities: In light of the current and on-going social lockdown restrictions we have chosen, presently, to list opportunities which can be undertaken safely to help in a range of ways.

Church Opportunities: In this section we will share some church-based volunteering opportunities. Our aim here is to give people a chance to share their skills across the Diocese.

*Volunteering opportunities will be added here soon.*

Advice about developing church-based volunteering:

If you would like to know more or to post a church-based opportunity please get in touch with our Generous Giving Team who can advise you about some practical measures to think through before developing volunteering in your church. A useful Church of England overview on managing volunteers can be found here: https://www.churchofengland.org/more/church-resources/community-action/managing-volunteers

Parish Resources also have a guide to volunteer recruitment and retention: https://www.parishresources.org.uk/people/working-with-volunteers/

Safeguarding: Please note that some volunteering opportunities may require a formal induction and a DBS check to be carried out prior to commencement. Cross reference the guides listed above and speak to our Generous Giving Team and our Safeguarding Team for further advice.
